Voice over LTE (VoLTE) is also known as ‘4G Voice’ or ‘4G Calling’. 4G Calling means that your phone call can be made over 4G networks. To use 4G Calling, you’ll need a VoLTE capable mobile phone, and a 4G enabled plan. This may also mean a software update to enable VoLTE on your phone. See our list of VoLTE capable phones to learn more, and what to expect with software updates.

Note: This coverage map is indicative only, and is intended to provide general guidance on where the Rocket Mobile  network and outdoor coverage is available. Coverage may vary depending on your exact location and the type of device used.

What's Our Coverage?

2G/3G Coverage

Our mobile network delivers 3G throughout the country, high speed dual carrier 3G in urban centres and rural areas, plus 2G backup. Our cellsites cover 98.5%* of where Kiwis live, work and play. *Population coverage.

4G Coverage

Our 4G network connects more than 96% of the population. Our 4G coverage uses both 1800MHz and 700MHz and we have a range of devices that work on both frequencies. 4G delivers a great experience with speeds, connectivity, and voice quality with VoLTE.

Marine

If you’re out on the water, you have access to our fantastic extended 900 MHz 3G network – this means that smartphones have coverage for up to 120kms offshore. We still recommend you have a VHF radio on board for emergencies.

Roaming

If you’re on one of our eligible Pay Monthly plans you can use your plan minutes, TXTs and data in over 100 destinations for $8 a day with Daily Roaming.

Rocket Mobile Overview

Your Rocket Mobile plan is bundled with value including unlimited data at the speed you need, plus unlimited talk and text to NZ and Aus. There are also optional extras based on how you want to connect which are outlined here:
What is it How much Do I have any other options
Voicemail Calls to voicemail are FREE Go for gold. And with unlimited talk and text on our plans, you can carry on connecting without worry.
MMS PXT 10 free MMS/PXT per month to NZ mobiles then no more can be sent. If you are a serial PXTer you are better to send your messages via a messaging app like WhatsApp or Messenger instead, using your unlimited data.
International calls & texts $10 for 250 calling minutes and 50 SMS messages to use within 30 days with our International Add-on You can also use an app like WhatsApp or Messenger to contact friends overseas while connected to WiFi or mobile data. If you're on Pay Monthly, if you call or SMS overseas outside of the International Add-on, you'll be charged per minute or per SMS at rates specific to that location.
Roaming For just $9 a day you can use your NZ non-stop data, minutes and SMS in our Daily Roaming destinations. Our Daily Roaming Add-on is a pretty choice option. Otherwise you can stay connected via WiFi or a local SIM when you're travelling.
Premium rate numbers Calls/SMS messages to premium rate numbers (e.g. reply "yes" messages that are subject to additional charges) aren't available on our Pay Upfront plans. To maintain our everyday low prices and remove bill surprises, our Pay Upfront plans don’t allow premium SMS or calls. That might mean for example that you need to call your dentist to confirm that appointment instead of replying by SMS

Other things to keep in mind:

  • Unlimited talk and TXTs are for standard person-to-person calls to standard NZ and Aus numbers.
